THE WORK SO FAR…Water Well #1 Stung Mean Chey, 2015
Our first well is running well and as planned. We built the system for 1000 people, but is now servicing 1,500 people. People from outlying areas and villages are coming to use the system from further away than anticipated. Within 48 hours after well construction began, people began moving in and started building their huts and houses to be close to the water. Fortunately, we originally planned for 4 liters per person where currently the people tend only to consume 1-2 liters per person. The system is holding up and the water has “Distinct, clean taste, not found in other filter systems”. Well number 1 had a set up cost of US $3,500. The current system has a monthly running cost of $50 per month. 1,500 people are now consuming clean drinking water.
On December 16th 2015, when we were visiting, a lady came up to me, got down on her hands and knees and thanked us for the water. The thanks really goes to all the people who made this happen. Thank you again to all of those who made it a success.
Water Well #2 Project Projection.
After a successful “Well #1, we are now going to build “Well Number #2”in the “Andong” district.
Poor Cambodian families have been “Relocated” to Andong District starting in 2006. These communities were moved from three different communities in Phnom Penh. Most are existing in conditions worse than a refugee camp. The water system that we plan to build for this area will service 20,000 people.
Our Goal For 2016 is to have this water system built and completed before the Second Quarter ends. This water system will provide water for the 6 Communities in Angdong Village. [Approximately 20,000 people].
We intend to rent a small house in the community like this. From here we will distribute the water, [Very similar to what we did in our first water project. There will be an ongoing rental but at least we don’t have to construct building. Total cost will be $12,200.
Water System #2. Once built, the running cost average will be about .02 cent per person, So totally we Expending $ 200 for every month.
Like the previous water project, we anticipate the numbers to grow. Or in other words, as soon as you put in clean drinking water, People will come to the Well.
