She is the most amazing child....
We researched special needs we felt we could care for. Cleft lip / palate was a condition we felt we could work with.  It wasn't long until we were matched with then nineteen month old San Zuan.

We traveled to China to meet our little daughter and bring her home. At first, Kate was very quiet and observant.  She never showed resistance to us but we could tell she was anxious at times. Kate was cautiously optimistic adjusting to our family.

We took slow, small steps and kept to a routine that Kate could rely on each day.  We could see milestones Kate hit every 3-6 months where she became more relaxed, comfortable and confident in her new family.   We let her adjust at her own pace and supported her along the way.

Kate is a very special child that people are drawn to because of the way she makes you feel - her presence surrounds you with a happy, peaceful energy. She is the most amazing child because of her strength, determination and understanding of situations.  She demonstrates wisdom beyond her age.  Simply put, Kate is our beloved daughter!

We knew God was telling us that she was the child for us....

We saw her picture on the Waiting Child list.  We read about her hearing loss and knew God was telling us that was the child for us.
Haddie turned 2 in our arms 2 days after we first held her in China.

At first she was very shy of our 14 year old son - we don't know if she didn't see many boys that age or if his braces kind of scared her but now they are best buddies!  She was my little "cling-on" for the first month preferring mommy's arms to anywhere else but gradually made her way down and around and has become comfortable with all - especially enjoying playing with her 7 year old sister.

Haddie will choose people in the store to say hello to that most of us would pass by without a second glance.  She seems to have a heart for those who normally do not get noticed.  She loves to laugh and has a wonderful imagination.

If only his Chinese parents could know...

Kevin was just three when he came home. He was a waiting child who has become a wonderful son. Now he's eight and in third grade. He is currently in baseball, loves flag football in the fall, still doing scouts, and pulling all A's!!  If ONLY his Chinese parents could know this, they would be just as proud as I am.

He is doing so well with all of his orthodontics.  We are hoping that once all of his teeth are out for his teenager braces to pull a tooth into that spot because he already had his bone graft.   He has his moments such as spilling his bowl of cheerios on my comforter this morning  -  death was just moments away. Heh, heh, heh, but he is truly a blessing to me and I am grateful for him every day and will always credit Children's Hope Waiting Child program for introducing him to me.                                                        - Gloria Ladley

Our story is ordinary....

Zhong Da and Zhong Xiao waited in the orphanage since they were toddlers. They had no medical needs. They just needed a mother and daddy.  And, since they were truly brother and sister, they needed to stay together. Our first kids were grown and gone,  but we were still here and ready to do it all over again. So Michael and Maria, ages 10 and  8, came home to us.

Our story is ordinary. They went to school. They learned English. They made friends. We parents lived through teen-age years one more time. To borrow from a once popular song, some days were diamonds, some days were stones.

Our story is also profound. These two little kids grew up. They worked hard and now they study engineering at a pretty prestigious school. They remember their beginnings and are whole-heartedly committed to a future doing good in the world.  They will change the world for others just as so many people, working together, changed it for them.

Our kids are unique only to us. There are many like them throughout the United States.  There are many more in China, still waiting to come home. International adoption is about much more than cute little kids.  International adoption is about a whole progression of stories and miracles.
