CHI RUSSIA ADOPTION STATISTICS 2010

For a more complete breakdown of Children's Hope adoption statistics, please contact your adoption consultant if you did not receive this Program Update by email.

UPCOMING HOLIDAY:  JUNE 12

June 12th, is Russia’s Independence Day, which commemorates the Declaration of Sovereignty of the Russian Federation. Because the holiday falls on a weekend, it will be celebrated the following Monday, June 14.  Our in-country offices will be closed for this holiday.

HOW DO FAMILIES GET A REFERRAL?

After you submit your basic registration documents to CHI, they are sent to Russia to be translated and submitted to a region. The region you are assigned to depends on a number of factors, including:

  • Family Background
  • Adoption Preference
  • In-country Factors

Once you are assigned to a region, you will begin to work on your regional documents in order to get registered in that particular region.

After the registration of your documents, the regional Department of Education will invite your family to travel and meet a child that they have selected for you based on your background and preferences.based on your background and preferences.

In some regions, families may receive limited information about the child prior to traveling.  In other regions, however, there will be no information at all, and families will travel “blindly”.

In most regions, the first referral offered by the regional Department of Education will be the best possible, however, this is something that you will discuss with your consultant prior to traveling, who will be very knowledgeable about the specifics of each region.

If you decide to turn down the referral, and request that the Department of Education finds another one, they will do their best to ensure that you receive another referral during the same trip.  However, families are urged to pay very close attention to the first referral, since oftentimes second referrals will have more medical needs.

Families who decide not to adopt in the region where the first referral was found will have to understand that they will not be able to be transferred immediately to another region, and travel there for a different referral.  This is not possible.  If a family decides to transfer regions, they will have to return home, write a letter to the regional Department of Education requesting to withdraw from their region, and then re-submit all necessary documents for the new region.
