Ethiopia Adoption

Children's Hope International has found homes for 30 orphans from Ethiopia since our first family returned home in August 2007. Nearly 100 orphans from Ethiopia will have new loving families by the end of 2008. Children's Hope is committed to be there for you each step of the way to see you to the end of your adoption journey with as few bumps as possible. Children's Hope first family for Ethiopia adoptions arrived home safely, cradling their new son in their arms. The couple traveled to Ethiopia in August to meet their 6-month-old son, Micah Yabsira, in the Children's Hope transition home in capital city Addis Abba, Ethiopia. Upon receiving your approved home study, Children's Hope will:

1. Provide guidance in gathering and assembling documents for your dossier.

2. Upon Immigrations approval, send you a CHI Power of Attorney form where you will give authorization for our Ethiopia staff to process your adoption for you.

3. Check, and arrange your documents and photos into a proper dossier. (Upon receiving confirmation of competed 10 hour Hague Approved Parent Education Training and Self Awareness Tool)

4. Express your dossier to the U.S. Department of State, and the Ethiopia Embassy for authentication.

5. Express your dossier to our Coordinator in Ethiopia, who will:

   • Translate into Amharic.

   • Present dossier to the proper officials.

   • Identify and correct any possible problems.

6. Notify you that your dossier has gone to Ethiopia and that you are now placed on the waiting list for a referral.

7. Send you a Travel Guide that will explain and prepare you for your trip to Ethiopia.

8. Notify you when the referral is given.

9. Send the picture of the child identified for you, with personal and medical info.

10. Get final approval and give notification of time to travel.

11. Coordinate travel and accommodations within Ethiopia.

12. Assist with travel and accommodations to and from Ethiopia.

13. Meet parents at Ethiopia airport of entry / having arranged all hotel, and ground transportation - as well as all appointments with officials.

14. Accompany and guide you in finalizing all adoption processes in Ethiopia.

15. Accompany the parent(s) and child to the airport for the flight back home.

16. Send you a “Post-Adoption Guide” that will explain procedures upon your return.
