Happy Anniversary! Children’s Hope Ethiopia Program Celebrates First Year
April 3, 2008
One full year ago on April 3, 2007, Children’s Hope International became licensed to work in Ethiopia for the purpose of adoption and humanitarian aid - upholding our mission to provide “Homes, health and hope for children in need." Twenty-eight orphaned children of Ethiopia were united with their forever families this year and the program touched the lives of 218 additional orphaned children through orphan sponsorship and skills training/education programs.
"We are looking forward to many more great years in Ethiopia. I pray that the work there and the aid that we are able to provide through our Development Aid Department continues to grow and get better and better with each passing year," says Program Director Sharon Turner.
Our Ethiopia US staff celebrated in St. Louis by providing a modified Ethiopian coffee ceremony, with popcorn and Ethiopian bread – and much rejoicing. Happy Anniversary to the Ethiopia Program!

Eleven Families Adopting from China Celebrate – Referrals!
February 4, 2008
Thuy and David Smith of St. Louis, MO, along with 10 additional Children's Hope families adopting from China celebrated Monday, February 4, as their referral day. These eleven families saw pictures and reviewed medical information on their new child for the first time.
Each family was matched with one of 9 beautiful little girls and 2 handsome little boys from the Gansu, Guangdong, and Jilin provinces and Tianjin City. These infants range in age from 7 - 15 months and 24 - 28 months.
Parents travel to China approximately 8 weeks after their referral day to complete their Chinese adoptions. Congratulations to these families!
As soon as Thuy and David received their referral, the two year wait didn’t seem so long after all. The couple is pictured here with China Dossier Specialist Roxanne Wang.

Families Home Share with Prospective Parents
January 15, 2008
Every third Sunday of the month, the St. Louis office hosts an information meeting for prospective parents, featuring both Program Directors armed with country information and parents who have walked in the very shoes these families seek to fill. Coming in from their home in Illinois, Jonah and Andrea Cope encouraged these families’ aspirations to adopt internationally. With them were 17-month-old Lilia from Russia and their son Caleb. The Copes finalized Lilia's adoption in August 2007.
Fifty Children’s Hope Staff Members are Adoptive Families, Too
January 1, 2008
Before she left for Vietnam, Gloria Akers became anxious. Flight plans, itineraries, and thoughts of entertaining her new 4-year-old son – all rose to the surface as the days passed heading towards her departure. After many months of waiting, her wait abruptly stopped. Her travel approval meant she would be soon finalizing her adoption of Cameron – the little boy whose picture was framed and viewed daily in her office at Children’s Hope International. For 13 years Gloria has served Children’s Hope families. On December 21, she now also serves her household as a new mom. We wish all the best for this new family!
With Cameron home, 50 Children’s Hope Staff members are now parents to 94 children through international adoption. As adoptive moms and dads, they hope for orphaned children worldwide to find their families, too.
