Raise Your Voice for Children with HIV/AIDS

World AIDS Orphans Day (May 7, 2008) began as a grassroots campaign to draw attention to and advocate on behalf of the millions of children orphaned by AIDS.

More than 15 million children worldwide have lost one or both parents to AIDS. By 2010, the number of AIDS orphans worldwide is expected to climb to an estimated 20?25 million children.

SPOTLIGHT INDIA: There are approximately 5,700,000 individuals infected with the HIV/AIDS virus living in India today. In the Andhra Pradesh state alone, there are about 170,000 children under the age of 15 who are living with the HIV/AIDS virus and approximately 57,000 more children are infected each year.

In addition to the children who are infected with the virus, there are millions of other children that are orphaned because of HIV/AIDS. This is creating a large population of children who are distressed and traumatized by the loss of their parents, and consequent lack of health care and education, loss of inheritance, malnutrition, and even starvation. In most cases, these children end up on the streets and often end up leading a life of crime.

In partnership with Mission to the Nations, Children's Hope will help 250 children from the East Godavari district for an entire year. These children are either infected with HIV/AIDS or they are street children who have been orphaned because of AIDS, and are in need of shelter, medical care, nutritious meals, and psychological support.

For approximately 800 rupees ($20), you can make sure that one of these children gets the care they need for an entire month, or you can provide a child with care throughout the whole year for $240. For those that can, do.

Fewer than 1 in 10 orphans receive any external support through government funding.

Those that can't, teach: spread the word today about the needs of these precious children.
