CHINA PROGRAM UPDATES

It may be chilly
in most parts of the U.S., but many Children’s Hope families
will be experiencing the warmth of family togetherness this
season! Last week eight waiting children families (special needs
or older) returned home, and currently six families are in
country finalizing their adoptions. Seven more waiting children
families are set to travel in February, scheduled around the
holidays of Chinese New Year. Let the festivities begin!
For 2006,
Children’s Hope completed 368 adoptions for 364 families.
Over twenty five percent of these adoptions were for waiting
children!
CHINA’S
NEW REQUIREMENTS
Children’s Hope
for months has been pre-warning people about what the China
Center for Adoption Affairs made official in December, their new
guidelines for parents who want to adopt from China. All
dossiers submitted to China after May 1, 2007 must meet these
qualifying requirements.
The new
standards that affect the most people inquiring about
adoption from China are:
-
No more
singles will be allowed to adopt.
-
Couples
must be married at least two years, unless there has
been a prior divorce and then the marriage must be at
least five years in length.
-
Couples
must both be between 30-to-50-years-old
-
No
parent’s Body Mass Index (BMI) can be over 40.
-
No parent
can have health problems- no infectious diseases, no
mental illness, no serious disability.
-
Parents
who are cancer and treatment free for over five years
will be considered on a case-by-case basis with input by
the CCAA.
