She’s colored the dog, a family portrait and all the color-by-number books until the crayon is down to her knuckles. But these little crayon nubs can still have purpose – recycle the vibrant crayon bits to make hearts, clovers and Easter eggs that will brighten and color your children’s holidays.

MATERIALS:

Crayon pieces

Holiday themed cookie tins (Hearts for Valentine’s Day,
Clovers for St. Patrick’s Day, or Eggs for Easter)

Scrap paper

Double-sided foam mounting tape

Scissors

Colored card stock

Marker

  1. Heat the oven to 250°.

  2. Fill each cookie mold with crayon pieces, being careful to not overfill. Select one solid color for each mold or go multi-color for interesting combinations (especially for an Easter egg!).

  3. Bake until the crayons melt, about 10 to 15 minutes.

  4. Once cool, remove the new crayon from the molds and smooth rough edges by rubbing them down on a piece of scrap paper.

  5. For gifting, use small pieces of foam tape to adhere each crayon to card stock. Use the marker to write in a holiday message!
